Abstract
534,445. Feeding webs. GOSS PRINTING PRESS CO., Ltd. Feb. 26, 1940, No. 3571. Convention date, July 14, 1939. [Class 100 (i)] A rotatable multi-web roll support for a printing press is provided with a reversible hydraulic motor for moving the support axially for side register of the webs. The shaft 14 on which are fixed the usual spider arms 12 for supporting three web rolls, is mounted at each end for axial movement in fixed pedestals 16. Fixed to one of the supports 16 is a fluid pressure cylinder comprising a cylindrical body part 22 and end covers 20, 24 through which pass piston rods 40, 42 of equal diameter. The rod 40 which is rotatably connected to the end of the shaft 14 by a head 46 and retaining plate 47 has a' reduced end threaded into one end of the rod 42 which is provided with a flange bolted to the piston 32. The piston is keyed to the rod 40 and is provided with cup leathers 34 secured to the piston by plates 36. The opposite ends of the cylinder communicate through non- return valves 62 with an oil reservoir and also through ports 58, 59 and pipes 56, 57 with a reversible high speed pump 54 directly driven by a reversible electric motor 50 controlled by push button switches 60. To prevent excessive movement of the shaft 14 collars 68 fixed at opposite ends thereof are provided to open limit switches 65 in the motor circuit.
