Abstract
544,625. Printing-machines. GOSS PRINTING PRESS CO., Ltd., and WHITEHEAD, W.A. Jan. 13, 1941, No. 463. [Class 100 (ii)] In an inking apparatus for a rotary printing press in which the distributing and forme-inking rollers are supported in movable frames on opposite sides of the distributing drums, power operated means are connected to the frames for moving the rollers into the operative or inoperative positions. The distributing rollers 15, 17, and forme-inking rollei 20, Fig. 1, on one side of the distributing drums 12, 13, 14 are carried by a pair of side frames 22, 23, Fig. 3, and the distributing rollers 16, 18, 19 and forme-inking roller 21 on the opposite side of the drums 12, 13, 14 are carried by frames 24, 25. The frames 22 ... 25 are pivoted at 26 at their lower ends and are connected at their upper ends by links 30 ... 33 to eccentric pins 35 carried by an operating shaft comprising end portions 36 and an intermediate portion 37. This shaft carries a worm wheel 49 engaged by a worm 48 operated by a rotary hydraulic motor 45 the supply of fluid to which is controlled by a suitably located valve. In a multicouple press, the pressure fluid for all the motors is supplied by a single pump, the control valves being grouped together at a control position, e.g. adjacent to the folder of the press. The shaft 37 is connected to the portions 36 by bolts 39 passing through segmental integral extensions 38 of the portions 36 and separate complementary cap members. According to the Provisional Specification, the links connected to the upper ends of the frames are screwed into sleeves formed with worm-wheels engaged by worms operated by rotary hydraulic motors the rotation of the sleeves causing axial movement of the screwed links and corresponding movements of the frames. In another form, an eccentric shaft rocked by a rack on the piston-rod of an hydraulic cylinder, is arranged to one side of the inking apparatus and is connected by links of different lengths to the upper ends of the frames.
