Abstract

534,090. Loading in mines &c. MYLES. A. R. Oct. 28, 1939, No. 28914. [Class 78(i)] Mechanical loading apparatus comprises gathering-mechanism movable about a horizontal pivot to follow the diminishing heap of material downwards, and adapted to feed the gathered material rearwards to an elevating loader conveyer which picks up at ground level and delivers to a vehicle, for example a mine truck. As illustrated, a loading conveyer A of endless-belt, scraper or worm type is fed by combined auxiliary conveyer and gathering mechanism which swivels as a unit about the vertical axis 3. The gathering mechanism, for instance a scraper conveyer 16 carried by a boom E, pivots about the point 15 so that it rests on the heap of material and follows it down as the heap diminishes. The gathered material is delivered to the main conveyer by the scraper-bucket conveyer 12 which pivots about a horizontal axis and is driven by the motor 13. The digging of the blades 19 into the material on the under run is said to advance and keep the whole appartus up to the work as the loading proceeds. Cutter wheels 26 may be fitted to the boom to make a channel for the scrapers 19 to work in.
