Abstract
533,254. Valve circuits for wireless reception. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Oct. 23, 1939, No. 28510. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] A radio receiver is arranged so that the amount of negative feed-back is reduced as the volume control is moved towards the position of maximum amplification, in which position, the negative feed-back is zero. The high frequency oscillations are fed from tuned circuit 2, 3 to a diode anode 9 and to a cathode 5 by way of resistances 11, 12 and coil 14. The rectified signal is taken from a slide contact 13 to grid 6 where after amplification, it passes by way of transformer 17, 18 to loudspeaker 20. Resistance 13 and coil 14 form the arms of a Wheatstone bridge the other two arms of which are formed by coil 15 and resistance 16, the ratio of the impedances being such that there is no potential difference between the point of junction of 12, 16 and the point of potential of 14, 15, due to the negative feed-back junction which is developed across 14, 15 and fed to grid 6 from movable contact 13. Thus as point 13 moves upwards to the point of maximum amplification, the amount of feed-back is reduced to zero. A tone filter 26-28 may be switched across the other diagonal of the bridge to give tone control which varies with volume control. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 497,319.
