Abstract

533,231. Inking apparatus; coating apparatus. SAMPSON, J. J. Oct. 19, 1939, No. 28233. [Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group III] In apparatus for spreading viscous material 1 such as printers' ink, paint or varnish over a surface, in which the material passes from a trough such as 6 through a slit between the wall of the trough and a thin adjustable plate 7, the adjustment of the plate is effected by adjusting the air pressure in a flexible tube 12 mounted in a casing 2 and bearing against a series of side by side keys having portions, e.g. shanks 11 engaging the plate. In modifications the keys are pivoted instead of being slidable, the pivots in one construction being cylindrical pins and in another construction being in the form of ball and socket joints.
