Abstract

532,293. Refrigerating. D'HALLOY, A. Aug. 24, 1939, No. 24410. Convention date, Sept. 13, 1938. [Class 29] Absorption machines. Ammonia or other refrigerant vapour evolved in a heated generator 13 rises through a column of oil 14 or other immiscible liquid cooled by external air or by waste cold from the evaporator and flows past a valve 16 into a liquefied refrigerant receiver 1 cooled by the evaporator 6. When the external temperature rises pressure is developed in the receiver and liquid refrigerant is forced therefrom through a tube 3 and valve 2 and issues through jets 5 into the evaporator space. This space communicates with the absorber 8, which is supplied with weak liquor from the generator by a pump 12 delivering to the interior of a porous tube 9. The strong liquor is returned by another part of the pump, which is driven by a turbine &c. 18 operated by refrigerant vapour under pressure taken by pipe: -,21 from the receiver 1 and exhausted by pipe 19 to the absorber. The heat supply to the generator is cut in when the pump is started, and continues until the receiver pressure drops at the attainment of low temperature.
