Abstract
532,139. Linkwork. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Aug. 17, 1939, No. 23749. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1938. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In the transmission of rotary motion from one shaft to another through the medium of a cord drive, e.g. in tuning a wireless receiver, inaccuracy in the drive due to the cord stretching is obviated by passing the cord over a drum 5 mounted rigidly on the driving shaft 2 and attaching the ends of the cord to two drums 3, 4 frictionally mounted on the driven shaft 1 so as to be capable of slight rotation relatively to each other, the relative motion to tighten the cord and the drive to the shaft 1 being transmitted through a member 6 fixedly mounted on the shaft 1 and supporting on a cross piece 9 a transverse pin 12 the ends 12a, 12b of which bear in slots 13a, 13b formed obliquely in opposite directions in the drums 3, 4. The bridge piece is carried on rods 7, 8 and is drawn radially in respect to the shaft 1 by helical springs 10, 11. In a modification (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown) the central bridge member comprises a disc of resilient material which is given an initial tension so that its surface is slightly curved. When the transmission between the drums is no longer free from play, the curved surface is slightly displaced together with its transverse pin thereby causing the required relative rotation of the drums.
