[Class 70] Fireproof plaster is made by mixing slag wool (30 per cent.) and asbestos (25 per cent.) in a teasing machine, soaking the felted fibres in a solution of potassium or sodium silicate (30 per cent., 66‹ Twe), and grinding the saturated fibres with iron filings (15 per cent.) to produce a plastic mass. The air may be extracted from the fibrous mass prior to or during impregnation with the silicate solution.
