Abstract

530,702. Sextants ; clinometers. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. June 15, 1939, No. 17565. Convention date, June 18, 1938. [Class 97 (ii)] In sextants and like instruments provided with a bubble level, means are provided for illuminating uniformly the periphery of the bubble. The bubble chamber comprises a frame 10a, lens 12 and glass plate 15, the chamber being in communication with a flexible diaphragm pump 32. A point source of light 23 is provided, the light passing through one of a series of apertures 29 on a disc 28 to give the intensity desired. The light then passes through a member 22 to the light distributing device 19 comprising an annular ring having reflecting surfaces 38 which causes the light to be conducted along the two halves of the ring. The ring 19 is provided with a series of grooves as shown of gradually decreasing radii whereby the light is deflected upwardly uniformly at all distances from the light source. The light projected on to the conical surfaces 17 of the bubble chamber is deflected to impinge on to the periphery of the bubble 37.
