Abstract

530,531. Luminescent materials and processing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BRITTEN, L. F., JENKINS, H. G., and McKEAG, A. H. June 19, 1939, Nos. 17840 and 25825. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group III] A vitreous surface, e.g. the interior surface of an electric discharge device, is coated with a luminescent material by applying a suspension of the luminescent material in a solution of polymerized methyl methacrylate, drying the coating and then heating it in a suitable atmosphere, e.g. air, to a temperature at which the methyl methacrylate is dispersed. A suitable solvent is ethyl acetate, and a plasticizer, e.g. camphor, may be added, the suspension preferably having a viscosity of between 5 and 20 centiporses at 20‹C. A heating temperature of 400-450‹C. is specified. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 523,528.
