Abstract

530,480. Collapsable rollers. BELL, J. June 26, 1939, No. 18501. [Class 100 (i)] A collapsable roller for supporting paper &c. rolls comprises segmental shell portions 13 carrying cam followers 16, 17 co-operating with cam surfaces 14, 15 formed on the shaft 10 so that relative angular movement of shaft and shell causes the shell portions to move radially, this movement being guided by the engagement of radial portions 16<SP>1</SP>, 17<SP>1</SP> on the cam followers with guide grooves in bushes 18, 19 mounted on the end portions 11, 12 of the shaft 10. One bush 19 is formed with a clutch portion 24 engageable by a slidable clutch of member 25 to hold the roller in any of a number of expanded positions or in the contracted position. Rubber or metal spring rings 22, 23 resist outward movement of the shell portions.
