Abstract
529,112. Aircraft undercarriages. MERCIER, J. May 22, 1939, No. 15147. Convention date, May 31, 1938. Addition to 522,261. [Class 4] [Also in Group XXIX] The hydraulic accumulator adapted for use on aircraft undercarriages described in the parent Specification is modified by connecting the ball-shaped flexible member 5 to the hydraulic receptacle 1 at a point 6 opposed to the part which serves for the admission of gas under pressure, and the member 5 may be formed of artificial rubber or of a flexible material not elastic. The member 5 also is adapted when expanded to close a valve member 28 by acting upon it directly or through a protecting plate 25. Normally liquid can pass from the receptacle 1 to an outlet pipe 27, or vice versa, through ports 34, or 32, 31, 30 and 33. When the member 5 is fully inflated the valve 28 is depressed, and only a small amount of fluid passes to the pipe 27 via passages 33, 35, but this may be sufficient to control the wing flaps of an aeroplane. The valve 28 may be dispensed with and the pipe 27 in this case lead to a perforated disc which can be closed by the pressure of the member 5. The holes are arranged so as not to tear the flexible material of the member 5. In a further modification Fig. 3 (Cancelled) liquid is admitted to the receptacle 1 through a spring-controlled check valve 4a, and the fluid outlet can take place through two pipes 36, 37 controlled by a spring-actuated slide valve 39. When the pressure in chamber 1 is low the valve 39 cuts off all outlet of fluid so as to prevent the receptacle 5 from bursting.
