Abstract

486,855. Hydraulic accumulators. CHISHOLM, G. D., and AVERY, C. J'., [Representatives of AVERY, W. L.], and AVERY EQUIPMENT, Ltd. Dec. 7, 1936, No. 33492. [Class 69 (ii)] A compressed gas-loaded accumulator in which the pressure liquid is separated from the compressed gas by a partition formed at least in part by flexible sheet material is provided with a valve for controlling the input of pressure liquid to the accumulator operatively connected with the flexible partition so as to be actuated bv movement thereof. The accumulator comprises a casing 1, Fig. 1, containing a cylindrical bag 3 charged' with air through a conduit 2 ; liquid from a pump passes through duct 11, non-return valve 13 and duct 12 into the storage space 29 surrounding the bag 3, and is delivered as desired to the actuated mechanism by outlet port 17 ; a lever 27 pivoted at 25 carries at one end a pad 28 bearing against the bag 3, the other end having an elongated slot 23 containing a pin 22 on the stem 21 of a valve 14 which controls a byepass from the supply passage 11 ; the lever 27 is acted on by a spring 26. When the bag 3 is initially charged with the valve 14 closes and remains closed until the accumulator is almost Fully charged ; the valve then opens, and remains open until, by withdrawal of liquid, the accumulator is practically discharged. A gauze or mesh lining may be provided in the interior of the accumulator vessel to prevent the bag sticking to the side walls. In a modification, Fig. 2, the partition comprises a piston 35 provided with packing 32, 33, 34 and a modified form of valve actuating mechanism is provided.
