Abstract
528,979. Cathode-ray tubes. PYE, Ltd., and LIEBMANN, G. May, 16, 1939, No. 14654. [Class 39 (i)] The control electrode of a cathode-ray tube comprises a plate one surface of which is flush with the emission surface of the cathode and formed with an aperture larger than the electrode aperture, over which is secured a thin plate 7 with an aperture of the requisite size. The cathode 1 may be secured in an aperture in a ceramic disc 4 by means of a strap 6 of metal of low heat conduction, and the plate forming the control electrode may be the bottom of a cup-shaped member 8 to which is secured the thin disc 12 ; the thickness of the cup 8 may be 0.3 mm. and of the disc 12, 0.1 mm. The cathode 1 is formed of a nickel tube with an internal heater, and to prevent vaporized nickel from depositing in the ceramic disc 4, shields 23 are provided. To reduce conduction between the cathode 1 and disc 4 the aperture in the disc may be square, so that there is only line contact between it and the cathode. The cup 8 may be closed by a disc 17.
