Abstract

528,848. Gas-purifying materials. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., and GRIFFITH, R. H. April 6, 1939, No. 10765. Addition to 489,398. [Class 55 (ii)] [Also in Group III] Combustible gas, containing a small percentage of oxygen and from which hydrogen sulphide has been removed, is treated to remove heavy hydrocarbons and then passed at raised temperature, preferably between 200‹ and 350‹C., over a catalyst comprising nickel or cobalt, as in the parent Specification. Hydrocarbons may be removed by washing the gas with an oil, e.g. gas oil, or by passing it through an absorbent such as active charcoal. Coal gas may be washed with gas oil, or be treated by a benzole recovery process, or be washed with gas oil. treated in the catalytic plant and the benzole may then be absorbed.
