Abstract
PURPOSE: To accomplish an efficient purification of hydrocarbon oil or gas by hydro genation of the sulfun compounds in the hydrocarbon oil using a catalyst consisting of molybdenum oxide and titanium oxide to remove said sulfur compounds from the system by adsorption, and also by recycling the catalyst used.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrocarbon oil 1 and a hydrogenating gad 2 are made to pass through pipes 3 and 4, respectively, to conbine into a signal stream, which is then introduced into the reaction tower 1 packed with a desulfurization catalyst consisting of molybdenum oxide and titanium oxide together with, if required, a cocatalyst such as nickel, cobalt, manganese. In the tower 1, a catalytic reaction is carried out, e.g., at ordinary pressuresW50atm. and 110-500°C to convert all the sulfun compounds present into hydrogen sulfide, which is adsorbed to the catalytic system and removed from the oil 1. The resultant catalytic system is then brought into contact with an oxygen-contg. gas in the reaction tower II, to convert the adsorbed hydrogen sulfide into sulfur dioxide, which is then desorbed to regenerate the catalyst. The hydrogenation and desorption processes are continuously carried out alternately in the reaction towers I and II, respectively.
