Abstract

528,743. Valves. SANDHOLM, H. F. April 5, 1939, No. 10603. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 13, 1939.] [Class 135] A plug cock has the plug formed with a single opening or a series of openings of increasing width extending down to the conical face and adapted to co-operate with a recess in the seat extending round part, say, one half, of the circumference. As shown in Figs. 1, 3, a rotary conical valve member 7 of wide angle is pressed against a seat 3 in the casing 4 by a spring 10 surrounding the valve stem 9. A packing 18 is retained by a further spring 10<SP>1</SP> abutting a pressure disc 16. An opening 6 extends over about half the seat but not to its upper edge. The valve member 7 has a series of ports 8 of decreasing radial width arranged accurately. The stem 9 is rotated by a handle 13 which has a locking device such as the thumb screw 14 or a lock operated by a key, which co-operates with holes or depressions 15 in a scale 12 secured to the valve nut or cover 11. In a modification, a single tapering opening in the valve plug is formed between a recessed inner part and an outer ring placed in position after the cutting of the recess.
