Abstract

527,631. Air conditioning apparatus; valves. PRICHARD, A. C. G. HESKETH-. March 10, 1939, No. 7869. [Class 137] [Also in Group XXIX] In an air filtration plant, particularly for use in air-raid shelters, filters 1, 2 are connected by a pipe 3, and have pipes 4, 5 leading into a valve casing 6 having an inlet duct 7 and outlet duct 8, the valve acting in one position to pass the air through both the filters to the outlet, and in the other position to connect the inlet and outlet directly, so as to bye-pass the filters. The change over valve comprises an axially slidable rod 27 bearing valve heads 28, 29 with rubber inserts 23 which contact with knife edges on seating rings 22, 23, 24. The rod is moved by a hand lever 38, and in the position shown, air entering at inlet 7 passes through both the filters, and is drawn through outlet 8 by fan 9, and is discharged through outlet 12 into the enclosure. In the alternative position, with rings 22, 24 closed, the air passes direct to outlet 8. Springs 31 are provided between each valve head and adjustable nuts 32 to urge the heads towards one another and against the rings. Springs, not shown cause the moving parts to snap into their extreme positions. A butterfly valve 20 controls the air current.
