Abstract

527,588. Belt gearing. HOPKINSONS, Ltd., BROWN, R. L., and METCALFE, T. April 15, 1939, No. 11524. [Class 80 (i)] In a self-contained belt drive for machines of the type comprising a column on which an electric motor and cone pulleys are mounted, the column a supports a frame c carrying a spindle c<1> about which are pivoted two frames d, e. The frame d carries the electric motor g and the frame e the cone pulleys i which drive the machine. Between the free edges of the frames is an adjustable abutment j, k. From the frames d, e project two arms m, n respectively, of which m has a handgrip and n is pivoted to a link o which passes through a sleeve p and has a handwheel r threaded over its other end. Between the wheel r and sleeve is a springs. Turning the wheel r moves both frames simultaneously and varies the tension in the belt from the cone pulleys i to the machine. By pulling on the handle m the belt leading to the machine can be slackened for shifting purposes. By adjusting the abutment j, k the tension of the belt between the motor g and pulleys i can be varied.
