Abstract
528,839. Stoppering. WHITE CAP CO. June 2, 1939, No. 16328. Convention date, July 20, 1938. [Class 125 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] In a cap-applying and sealing machine such as that shown in Specification 432,463 the accurate positioning of the receptacles with reference to the cap-applying means is effected by belts between which the receptacles travel and which are maintained in contact therewith by groups of individually adjustable sheaves. Receptacles R, Fig. 1, are carried by a belt 12 below a cap-applying mechanism 15 and are positioned with respect thereto by belts 20 driven at the same speed as the belt 12 and tensioned by springs 23. The belts 20 are pressed towards each other by rollers 40, 41 supported by rods 30, 31, Fig. 2, mounted in the framework of the machine. A member 32 connects the rods 30, 31 and has upstanding pintles 34, 36 which take into apertures 37e, Fig. 3, in members 37, 37<SP>1</SP>, respectively. Sheaves 41 are mounted between the parts 37a, 37b at the adjacent ends of the members 37, 37<SP>1</SP> on the pintles 34, 36, and sheaves 40 are mounted in the same position at the other ends on screws 42. Stops 44 or the member 32 extend upwardly to the inner sides of the parts 37b and limit the inward movement produced by the springs 46. The rods are slidable in sleeves 47 which are slidably mounted in the framework. A spring 49 surrounds a reduced extension 30a of each rod 30. In oraer that the distance between the belts may be adjusted to suit receptacles of various diameters, the ends 50 of the sleeves are connected by links 56, Fig. 7, to the lower ends of levers 54 which are pivoted at 52 to the framework. The upper ends of the levers are connected to co-operating threaded members which are drawn together or separated by turning a hand-wheel 67. The hollow members 65 is slidable in the bore 60 of a member 57 and is threaded internally to engage the threaded. enlarged end 66 of a rod 64, The other end of this rod is fixed to a rod 62 which rotates and slides in the bore 59. The wall 61 between the ends of the bores is tapped to receive the threaded part of the rod 64. The thread on the member 65 is of opposite hand to that on the rod 64 and since it is of twice the pitch, the levers 54 will be swung to the same extent when the wheel 67 is operated.
