Abstract

527,332. Photographic reversal processes. KODAK, Ltd. April 6, 1939, No. 10778. Convention date, April 6; 1938. [Class 98 (ii)] A black-and-white reversed image is produced by developing a reversed silver salt image with a coupling developer containing a developing agent and the colour former pbenzylphenol, which couples with the oxidation products of the developing agent, formed where a silver image is produced by development, to give a neutral grey image. The negative silver image is removed by Farmer's Reducer after the second development, but the positive silver image is not removed owing to the protective action of the dye image. Two developing formulae are given, one containing diethyl-p-phenylenediamine as developing agent and the other 2-amino-5-diethylaminotoluene hydrochloride. Sodium hydroxide is used in both formulae. Other developing agents referred to are p-phenylenediamine and dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine. The latent image is produced either in taking or in printing, and a metol-hydroquinone first developer is used. The second exposure is effected either from the emulsion side or through the support and may be controlled to permit of a constant developing time. Specification 176,357, [Class 98 (ii)], is referred to.
