Abstract

500,613. Photographic colour development. KODAK, Ltd. MAy 10, 1937, No. 35098/38. Convention date, May 9, 1936. Divided out of 500,826. [Class 98 (ii)] In a process of three-colour photography wherein component colour images in three silver halide emulsions on a single support are processed to coloured images, a dye image of improved gradation is produced by subjecting a developable silver salt image to the action of a colour developer containing also a non- coupling and non-colour-forming developing agent and subsequently removing the silver from the dye image produced. The component colour images may be formed in three layers of differentially sensitized silver halide emulsion on a single support or in two layers, one of which consists of a not specially sensitized silver halide emulsion while the other consists of a mixture of grains of silver halide emulsion respectively sensitized to the red and green regions of the spectrum. The colour developer may include either (a) a developing agent of which the product of oxidation on development couples with unoxidized developing agent, (b) a developing agent, for example a leuco dye, oxidized directy on development, or (c) a developing agent of which the oxidation product on development couples with a colour former. The addition of sulphite in colour development by coupling is omitted or limited to a minimum. The component images may be reversed silver salt images or images produced by bleaching developed and fixed images. Specifications 498,869, 498,870, 498,871, 498,875, 501,000, 501,001 and 501,002 are referred to.
