Abstract
527,162. Adjustable air deflectors for cooling condensers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 1, 1939, No. 10232. Convention date, April 1, 1938. [Class 79 (iii)] [Also in Group XIII] In a device for controlling air flow to condensers of turbine locomotives and to other heat exchange apparatus, a number of vertical lower blades 14. are mounted as in Fig. 1, in openings in the side walls adjacent to the condensers 13, and are adjustable to meet varying external conditions. Each blade (Fig. 2) is transversely curved, and is eccentrically pivoted near the leading edge, at the top and bottom. Bifurcated arms 35, 36 perpendicular to the blades at opposite ends, end in slots 37, 38, respectively, to which cables 39, 40, for controlling the louvre position are attached by clamps 41, 42. The cables are fastened progressively as in Fig. 4 in such a way that on opening, each blade swings out further into the air flow than the preceding (right-hand) blade. the air being thus evenly distributed over the condensers. Fig. 3 shows the mechanical controlling arrangement (blades open), and Fig. 4 the blades closed, in plan. A modification 15 (Fig. 1), to fit the exhaust outlet in the roof is depicted in detail in Fig. 7 (not shown).
