Classes 110(i) and 110(iii) In a gas turbine engine having an air intake and spaced guide vanes extending across the intake, the guide vanes are so constructed that the leading edge 18 of a guide vane and the trailing edge 19 of the next adjacent guide vane are in overlapping relationship throughout their length, the object being to separate out water particles carried by the airstream by means of the greater inertia of the water particles, and to deposit it on the surface of the guide vanes. The guide vanes in the air intake are structurally separate from the blades of the compressor of the engine. Means may be provided for effective removal of the water deposited on the guide vanes, for example by means of electrical resistance elements 20 embedded in the guide vane.
