[Class 43] A gripping device for gripping the mandrel in tools for expanding hollow rivets &c. of the kind comprising one or more jaws 10, 10' and a cooperating member 11 with an inclined or conical surface 12 coacting with the jaws to produce a gripping movement of the latter when moved axially of the device is :provided with protuberances 14 such as balls or ribs on the exterior of the jaws or the internal surfaces or the co-operating member in order to reduce tendency towards binding or jamming of the jaws.
