528,445. Expanding hollow rivets. AVIATION DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., and BETTINGTON, E. M. April 28, 1939, No. 8332. [Class 43] A tool for expanding hollow rivets by means of a headed mandrel comprises an internally taperec sleeve 2 slidable axially ir an outer casing and narrow jaws 7 for gripping the mandrel 3 which jaws are mounted in a transverse slot 6 in a tapered carrier 4 urged upwardly by a spring, the small area of contact of the jaws with the sleeve lessening friction between them and reducing tendency for the jaws to slip on the mandrel. In a modification, Fig. 8, the jaws 7 are mounted in slots 10 in the internally tapered sleeve 2, or there may be a series of jaws corresponding to the internally tapered surface of the sleeve which has longitudinal ribs to reduce the area of contact.
