Abstract

526,815. Coating iron. ROBERTS, S. T.. and TAYLOR, F. March 14, 1939, No. 8202. [Class 82 (ii)] In a process for rustproofing ferrous articles prior to painting or enamelling, the articles are immersed in a hot solution, at 140-208‹F, produced by adding to phosphoric acid, 1-6 gms. per litre of zinc and manganese salts, preferably carbonates, and 0.05-0.40 gm. per litre of cobalt and/or nickel salts, preferably carbonates. The manganese or zinc salts may be replaced by an equivalent amount of cadmium salts. Oxidizers, such as peroxides, perborates, dichromates, permanganates or nitrates or a salt, such as a copper salt, which will set up a galvanic couple may be added.
