Abstract

526,301. Coating webs. AMERICAN CAN CO. June 9, 1939, No. 16922. Convention date, June 9, 1938. [Class 140] [Also in Group XVI] In machine which is especially applicable to applying adhesive in similar patterns such as E, Fig. 4, to the ends B of a container, the fibrous material A from which the ends B are cut is prepared by passing between a pair of similar intaglio rollers L in which designs are cut corresponding to the patterns E. The web A is led over a roller 12 and is drawn through the rollers L by feed rollers 16. The rollers L rotate in separate troughs 29 containing thermoplastic adhesives, and heated by steam, hot oil &c. circulating round heating jackets 31. The rollers L are preferably heated by circulating fluid, and vanes 45 stir this fluid. Each roller is applicable to produce containers as in Specification 470,098, [Group XVII].
