525,907. Mudguards. LUNGHI, P., and LONDON PASSENGER TRANSPORT BOARD. March 3, 1939, No. 6916. [Class 136 (i)] In a motor-vehicle body having recesses in the sides for the accommodation of the wheels, mudguards of domed shape are fitted within the recesses, with their outer margins substantially in alignment with the side walls of the body. In one form, Fig. 2, the side wall 10 of the body is inswept at 11 to form a recess of inverted-U outline to receive a domed mudguard 12, e.g., of rubber, provided with a marginal bead 13 of L-section. The rubber mudguard 12 is pressed into a retaining metal groove 15 by a metal strip 17 adapted to be forced upwards by a screw 18 and nut 19 at one or each end. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the side wall 10 extends inwards at rightangles, and the mudguard 12 is ribbed to engage the groove 15, the fastening-strip 17 being located between a pair of beads 23. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the inswept portion 11 is formed of sheet-metal pressing detachably secured to the side wall 10 by nuts 26, the domed mudguard 12 being permanently riveted &c. to the removable pressing, or connected thereto by a clamping-strip 17.
