525,513. Furnaces. BIRMINGHAM ELECTRIC FURNACES, Ltd., ROBIETTE, A. G. E., and HANCOCK, P. F. Feb. 23, 1939, No. 5989. [Class 51 (ii)] A heat resistant roller for roller hearths of furnaces comprises a. metal sheath a having a refractory core b made of concrete aggregate. The core may be reinforced as indicated at b'. Caps or plugs c, c<SP>1</SP> are provided at the ends of the roller and between the cap c and plate d at one end of the core a spring f may be provided. The cap c is screwed into the sheath and adjustable to vary the compression of the spring. The sleeve is made of iron chromium alloy or of mild steel aluminized so as to be protected against oxidation.
