Abstract
524,769. Speed indicators. MARRS, P. Feb. 7, 1939, No. 3986. [Classes 106 (iii) and 106 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] A speed indicator comprises a casing having a number of windows orientated towards different points, a shaft 20 passing through the casing and driven by speedometer mechanism outside the casing, and a number of speed indicating means mounted within the casing behind each of the windows and operatively associated with the shaft. In one construction the indicators are charts 10 running on rollers 34 and 36, the latter being driven by gears 42 and 46 from shaft 20. In another construction the charts are mounted one above the other round a cylinder fixed on shaft 20. Each window is then arranged at a height that corresponds with its own chart only. In an electric construction a group of lamps 96a, 98a, 100a and 102a is mounted on each side of the casing. The shaft 20 carries a wiper contact 118 moving over segments 130, 132, 134 and 136. Corresponding lamps in each group are all connected in parallel to a particular segment. As the shaft 20 revolves one of the lamps in each group lights up and indicates the particular segment on which contact 118 rests and thus shows the range within which the speed at the moment lies.
