Abstract
524,661. Electrolytic production of hypochlorides. SALLES, P. M. R. Feb. 3, 1939. No. 3687. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1938. [Class 41] A solution of sodium chloride or a physiological liquor containing sodium and potassium chlorides is electrolized in a pressure-resistant hermetically sealed enclosure. After electrolysis the chlorine collected in the space above the electrolyte unites with any alkali to produce a neutral hypochlorinated solution, this being facilitated by slight stirring. Sufficient space is left to prevent excessive rise of pressure. The current may be cut off automatically after a predetermined rise of pressure or of temperature. Solutions which are iso-, hyper- or hypotonic to blood serum may be treated.
