Abstract
524,233. Making parts of thermionic valves. DAVID G. Jan. 24, 1939, No. 2496. Convention date, Jan. 24, 1938. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Spinning.-Contact pins are secured in preformed holes in a thermionic valve cap by arranging the pins in recesses in a carrier so that their shanks project, placing the cap over the shanks and then flanging over the ends of the shanks by means of rotary tools to secure them in the holes in the cap. Several flanging- tools may be used or the carrier may rotate to bring the pins successively beneath a single tool. The carrier 1 has recesses 2 shouldered to support the flanges 6 of the pins 5 with the shanks protruding so as to pass through holes 3 in a valve cap. 4 placed thereon. A rotary flanging tool 14 operates on the shanks in turn as they are brought under it by rotation of the support 1. In order to hold the pins against rotation with the tool, a plunger 8 having a point 9 furnished with edges to engage the hole in the tip of the pin is lifted by a ball 17 and springs 13, 18 located beneath the tool. The plunger is held against rotation by a non-circular enlargement fitting a recess 7 or by a projection 10 working in a groove 11.
