STAMPING DEVICE Marion D. Linn, Whiteriver, Ariz.
Application April 16,
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a device which is mainlyintended for stamping tags and bands, the general object of the invention being to provide a plier like device having means for removably holding a die plate on one jaw so that a band or tag placed between the jaws will be stamped by the die when the jaws are moved together.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the die member can be easily and quickly put into place or removed.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and. arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention is detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the lower jaw member.
of a pair of pliers. The upper jaw member is formed with the depending part I the lower face of which is formed with the guideway 5 which is formed with-the laterally extending part 5" at one end thereof, this guideway being adapted to receive the die plate 6 which is formed with the wings I at one end thereof, the inner edges of which form shoulders for fitting into the parts 5 and the outer edge of which is formed with a double curve forming a central recess 8. A rod 9 has a sliding fit in a hole I0 formed in the part Figure 4 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of r it will be seen the device is somewhat in the form 1935, Serial No. 16,715
I and at one end has a wing-shaped head H,
a portion of which is adapted to fit in the recess 8 to hold the die plate in position with the wings 1, thus engaging the shoulders formed by the parts 5'. A spring l2 encircles a portion of the 5 member 9 and has one end bearing against the jaw and its other end against a washer I3 held in place by a pin M.
The upper face of the jaw 2 is fiat having an upstanding part I5 thereon and the under face 10 is beveled as shown at I6 in Figure 3.
As it will be understood a plurality of the die plates are provided and when a plate is to be used it is simply placed in the guideway 5 with the inner edges of the wings I fitting in the parts 5 5 of the guideway and then the member 9 is turned to cause a portion of the head II to engage the recess 8 as shown in Figures 1 and 4. Thus the die plate is yieldingly held in position and can be readily removed by pulling outwardly upon the head II and then turning the member -9 so as to move the head to one side of the die plate,
The member to be stamped is placed on the jaw 2 under the die plate and then the handles are pressed together to cause the die plate to engage the member and if desired the jaw I can be struck with a hammer or the like to cause the die plate to properly mark the object.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:-.
A stamping device comprising a supporting member having a guideway therein formed with laterally extending parts at one end thereof, a die plate having its side edges engaging the guideway and provided with laterally extending wings for engaging said end parts, the wing carrying part of the plate having a recess therein, a rod slidably supported by the supporting member and having a head for engaging the recess to hold the plate in position and a spring on the rod for normally holding the same in position with the head in engagement with the recess.
