Abstract

524,082. Handles. HOOVER, Ltd: (Hoover Co.). Jan. 21, 1939, No. 2114. [Class 61 (i)] The fitting for mounting the pivoted handle of a suction cleaner comprises a single pressing having two vertical spaced portions A connected by a cross piece A<SP>1</SP>; the spaced portions A have extensions A<SP>2</SP> extending out at right angles for securing as by rivets to the cleaner casing and the cross piece A<SP>1</SP> may also be secured as by rivets to an upstanding part of the casing. One of the lateral extensions A<SP>2</SP> is elongated and has a bent up extremity A<SP>3</SP> to house the pivot pin C for the foot operated pawl D which co-operates with the notched quadrant E on the handle socket H, the pawl D being provided with a leaf spring G located between the divided roll parts D<SP>1</SP> of the pawl and engaging a groove in the pivot pin C to retain it in position. The handle socket H including the side cheeks connected by the pivot pin H<SP>1</SP> to the spaced members A is also formed by pressing from a single sheet metal blank.
