Abstract
523,764. Valve generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and FOSTER, J. Jan. 14, 1939, No. 1328. [Class 40 (v)] A number of valves are coupled together for the production of high frequency oscillations by connecting them to a transmission line, which forms the frequency determining circuit for each valve, at intervals equivalent to an integral number of electrical half-wavelengths, as shown. At the frequencies concerned a voltage node appears at a distance d from the valve electrodes which is small compared with a physical quarter wavelength. The valves are spaced apart along the line, the physical distance between the electrodes of adjacent valves being 2d + #/2 where n is zero or an integral number. The transmission line is extended from the electrodes of at least one of the outer valves a distance of d + #/4 + #/2 The supplies to anode and grid are brought in at voltage nodes through chokes, and the cathode leads are tuned. A type of valve which is preferably employed and enables a higher frequency to be obtained has the leads to the anode and grid brought out at both ends of the valve. Power is drawn off through a transmission line at right angles to the main transmission line and matched to it by adjusting the position of its point of connection.
