Abstract

522,887. Windows; fastenings. KNAP, Ltd. June 24, 1939, No. 18486. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1938. [Class 20 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A window comprises' horizontally-sliding sashes detachably fitted in grooves in a frame which is formed of welded rolled-metal sections having parts removable to permit assembly &c. of the sashes after the frame has been built into the wall &c. As shown, inner and outer sashes 3, 4 are fitted with rollers 5, 5a engaging grooved tracks in the lower frame members. Each sash comprises flanged bars 6 ... 9, the stiles 7 having overlapping lips 10, the frame being formed of bars 12 ... 15. The transom-bar 12 and stiles 13, 15 each comprise a web 16 and flanges 17 to provide sash grooves 18, 18a. The sill bar 14 comprises a web 21, oppositely-directed, inner and outer, edge-flanges 22, 23 and, preferably, a flange 26 disposed inwardly of a flange 32 on the inner sash-bar 8. The outer walls of the sash-grooves in the sill-bar 14 are constituted by an angle-bar 27 secured to the web 21 by screws 31, and a flanged bar 29 secured to the flange 23 by screws 38. Weather-strips 33, 39 are secured to the sash-bars 8 by screws which are covered by the glazing fillets. To prevent opening of the windows from outside, a spring-pressed bolt 45 is shown adapted to engage behind a lug 47 on the outer sash, and a latch 48 pivoted on the inner sash to engage a stud 49 on the frame. Fig. 4 shows a latch, for allowing a partial opening of the inner sash, comprising a stop 50 pivoted on the lower sash-bar and normally swung to rest on a lug 51 on the sash. A lug 52 is fitted to the sill-bar 14 to form an abutment for the stop 50 when this, is swung into the (operative) position shown.
