Abstract
522,879. Separators &c. ZIEGLER, S. March 10, 1939, No. 7833. [Class 23] [Also in Groups XIII and XXVIII] Oil particles are separated from gases or vapours during the passage of the stream with repeated change of direction, through an apparatus with a number ' of conical plates ; alternate plates 7, 9, 11 have a central aperture 16 while the other plates 6, 8, 10, 12 have a number of apertures-15 arranged at a distance from the central axis. Each aperture 15, 16 has a flange extending from its plate towards the entry 2. The plates are separated by spacing washers 17 and are pressed together by a spring 18. Each plate has a gutter 13 near its periphery provided with drip apertures 14. The stream of gas and suspended oil enters by the inlet 2 and impinges on the top plate 6 ; it then flows through the apertures 15 and inwards towards the aperture 16 of the next plate. The separated oil flows down the plates to the gutters 13 and apertures 14, to fall to the bottom plate 19 which conducts it to the wall and the container 1 while the gas passes tothe outlet 3. The oil may be removed through the opening 4 by a pump.
