Abstract
521,896. Printing-machines. COMINO, D., and MOORE, C. F. Nov. 36, 1938, No. 34487. [Class 100 (ii)] In a proof-printing press the type is supported in a tray of sheet steel formed of sides m<SP>1</SP> Fig. 1, which act as bearers, and a bottom m or a false bottom m<SP>3</SP>, and the tray is slidden between metal guides b<SP>3</SP>, b<SP>4</SP> which guide the tray so that it passes between an impression roller h and a lower steel counterpressure roller e spaced apart a distance equal approximately to the height of the type above the bottom of the tray. The spacing of the rollers is controlled by screws k and adjustable nuts, the upper one of which engages the underside of a metal plate l which joins the sides a of the metal structure supporting the guides b<SP>3</SP>; b<SP>4</SP>. The rollers are mounted in bearingblocks x, x<SP>1</SP>, x<SP>2</SP>, arranged to be guided by a slot formed between upright strengthening pillars c fitted in a gap in 'the metal sides a. The roller e projects slightly above a gap in base plate b and is operated by a handle f to advance the tray and the type between the rollers h, e to take a proof impression. In a modification the tray m is fixed and the rollers h, e are mounted in a carriage which. is moved over -the bed, the carriage being fitted with guide rollers at each side of the roller e if desired. A pair of closely spaced rollers may replace the single roller e.
