Abstract

736,312. Printing on ceramic ware. MURRAY, G. L. July 31, 1952 [Aug. 4, 1951], No. 18523/51. Class 100 (2). Printing on curved surfaces; platen machine.- Apparatus for printing or decorating ceramic ware comprises a carrier for a resilient pad 23, which may be as described in Specification 735,637, a support 24 for an engraved or etched plate 27 and for the article to be printed or decorated, relative movement in a straight line being effected between the carrier and the support to cause the pad to be applied to and withdrawn from the engraved or etched plate and the article to be printed. The support 24 (Figs. 1 and 4) is rotatably supported about a vertical column 12 which, together with a column 13, is supported on a base 10. The columns 12, 13 carry a bridge portion 14 which may be vertically adjusted by nuts 15 and which supports a hydraulic plunger 16. The plunger may alternatively be manually, mechanically or electrically operated. The plunger has a rod 17 attached to a plate 18 adapted to slide vertically on the columns 12, 13 and to the underside of which is attached the resilient pad 23. Screw-threaded rods 21 are attached to the plate 18, and are vertically movable through holes in the bridge portion 14. The rods 21 are provided with nuts 22 to limit the movement of the plunger. The rotatable table 24 has a number of separated sections 26 for supporting the plates 27 and articles to be printed. The position of the table is determined by adjusting bolts 29 in brackets 28 which coact with a hinged portion 30a of a fixed stop 50. Air blast, gas or electric heaters may be provided for drying the ink. In a modification (Fig. 7) the base 10a is provided with rails 31 on which are mounted reciprocating tables 32, 33 carrying a support 35 for the article to be printed, and the plate 27 respectively. The tables are reciprocated manually. An adjustable stop 36 is provided to limit inward movement of the tables on the rails whilst lateral adjustment is effected by means of screws 37.
