Addressing-machines; stencilling.-In apparatus for printing cards, tags, sheets, &c. in which the cards &c. are arranged in a pile and removed successively from the top as they are printed through a stencil, the stencil is mounted on a carrier which is movable vertically to adjust itself to the height of the pile and is also pivoted and adapted to swing automatically on its pivot after each printing operation to permit removal of the printed card &c. As shown, the pile 11 is. mounted on a table 9 with two adjacent sides in ccntact with pins 26, 28 carried by plates 23, 25 resting by gravity on the top of the pile. The pins 26, 28 pass freely through the table and, when a new pile of cards is to be inserted, are adapted to be lifted simultaneously by a plate 30 vertically guided by rods 31 and raised by means of an arm 34 provided with a handle 35. Instead of the arm 34 a cord attached to the top of the plate 30 and connected to an operating rod may be employed. The cards are printed through a stencil comprising the sheet 14 bearing the stencil perforations secured to a paper frame 12. The stencil is secured in a groove 41 in a carrier 38 which is mounted on pins 36 so as to have free pivotal and vertical movement, the pins 36 passing loosely through holes in the stencil and the carrier. An adjustable weight 43 on an arm 42 secured to the carrier lifts the stencil clear of the pile after each printing operation. A stopplate 22 is provided to limit the travel of the inking roller. The printed cards may be laid upside down on the table 9 against side flanges 20, 21 and have addresses printed on the back by stencils 50.
