521,781. Lighting systems for staircases and escalators. BOURNE, S., and BOURNE & HQLLINGSWORTH. Ltd. Dec. 22, 1938, No. 37347. [Class 75 (iv)] [Also in Group XVIII] Escalators and stairways are decoratively illuminated by discharge tubes 11 arranged in the balusstrade base beneath transparent glass panelling 4 extending thereabove and between the pillars of the balustrade. Gaps 14 permit also light to spread over the surfaces of the panels which may have a zigzag or other design sand-blasted on them. "Up" and "down" escalators are distinguished by differently coloured illumination.
