[Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] A container A especially suitable for use in blood transfusion comprises a soft rubber or like closure plug B having at least one opening 12 therethrough and sealed by two superposed resilient sealing pads, for example rubber discs 15, 18, retained respectively by means such as spun-over aluminium caps 16, 20. The plug B is flanged at 11, the pad 18 is covered by an aluminium disc 19, and the caps 16, 20, are. provided with tear flaps, 17, 21, to permit easy removal. For transfusion the container is supplied sealed, sterilized and evacuated, for example as described in Specification 454,501, and containing citrate solution and a tube 13 mounted in opening 12 and extending to the bottom of the container. Sealing pad 18, with parts 19, 20, is removed and a needle, connected by a clamped flexible tube with a transfusion needle, inserted through seal 15 and plug B whereby blood is drawn into the container and may be stored until required. To administer the blood, sealing pad 15 and cap 16 are removed and a screw ring, engageable with a moulded thread 10, applied to hold plug B. A tube connected to a transfusion needle is then inserted into a second opening 14 in plug B and the container inverted and suspended by a bail thereon (not shown) to deliver the contained blood, air being admitted through tube 13.
