520,419. Casting-machines. POLAK, J. Oct. 22, 1938, No. 30610. Convention date, Nov. 11, 1937. [Class 83 (i)] Clamping moulds.-In a die-casting machine, having a press chamber 1 for the molten metal with a cap 2 and a forcing plunger 71, the pressure for moving the cap 2 down is increased to ensure tight closure, this increased pressure initiating the upward movement of the plunger 71 and also if desired, increasing the pressure on the mould-closing piston 12. The machine has four two-way valves 8 ...11, each connected to water, under accumulator pressure, and to exhaust, of which 11 is operated to close the mould m and 8 to move the piston 3 and cap 2 down. Before it engages the chamber 1, the cap 2, by means of a flange 15, operates the valve 9 to admit water below the piston of an intensifier 5 thus supplying high pressure water to the pistons 3 and 12 and to a plunger 18 previously supplied with low-pressure water and balanced by a plunger 19 similarly supplied. This high pressure operates the valve 10 to admit low pressure water-below the piston 7 and force the metal into the mould. Reversal of the valves 8, 11 causes the parts to return to their original positions.
