Abstract
519,784. Atomizing fusible material. HILLER, S. Sept. 30, 1938, No. 28515. [Class 69 (iii)] [Also in Group III] Apparatus for atomizing fusible materials such as metals for producing metallic powders or compounds in powder form, comprises a flinger wheel 3 having radial vanes 3a mounted within a casing 4 carried by the shaft of the wheel and provided with one or more openings 5a at the bottom thereof, the unit so formed being adapted for partial submersion in a bath of molten material whereby the material flows into the casing into contact with the wheel. The metal is projected into a divergent passage 6 and air or steam admitted by a valve controlled passage 8 and flue gases are admitted by a similarly controlled passage 14 so that either air or flue gases or both may be admitted to the atomizer. The lighter particles are carried by the gas stream while the heavier particles return to the melting bath 2. The unit is supported by detachable bearings on the edge of the bath. The apparatus is stated to be applicable for producing finely divided lead, tin, antimony, cadmium or other metals of low melting point and their compounds such as oxides or carbonates.
