Abstract

519,533. Closets. GROENIGER, W. C. Sept. 14, 1938. No. 26845. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1937. [Class 26] A water closet comprises a flush rim associated with the seat for the discharge of flushing water beneath the seat, so as to scour the upper walls of the interior of the bowl, a combined seat hinge, and a flush rim supply valve control mechanism so arranged that the valve is opened when the seat is lowered and closed when the seat is raised: The flush rim, with its series of discharge apertures, may be incorporated in the seat structure, or may be independent thereof, each structure being pivoted on the same hinges and swingable independently of the others. In the form shown, flushing water from the chamber 12 passes through the ports 35 of the pair of inlet arms 34, through the ports 33, 31 of the arm 34 and sleeve 30 respectively, and so to the holes 23 in the channel 22 formed in the seat. The seat hinges on the ends 28 of the arms 34 so that as the seat is raised the two ports 31, 33 move out of register and the water flow to the seat is prevented, the water passing to a channel in the closet bowl and to an orifice 20 at the back of the bowl. In a modification the arms 34 may be connected at the side of the flushing water reservoir 12 instead of the front. The lower edge of the orifice 20 is above the overflow level of the bowl, as are also the apertures 23 in the flush rim, so that back siphonage into the water supply pipes is prevented. Specifications 518,144 and 519,531 are referred to.
