Abstract

1400498 Ventilating sanitary closets L BAMBERG 7 Aug 1972 36752/72 Heading E1C A sanitary closet pan 20 or 51 is ventilated by applying suction to the water passage for flushing the pan when the pan is not being flushed, and applying the suction to a separate air passage during flushing, the change-over being effected by a valve having three superposed compartments formed by two partitions in each of which is an opening closable by a valve, the valves being connected to a float in the lower compartment and the lower compartment being connected with a flushing pipe so that when the pan is flushed suction applied to the middle compartment and normally acting via the lower compartment on the water passage of the pan via the flushing pipe is caused to act instead via the upper compartment on the air passage. In one embodiment, Figs. 2 and 4, the air passage 27, having downwardly directed openings 28, is formed in a seat 26 hinged by stubs 29, 30 one of which is hollow and connected via a pipe 31 to the upper chamber 36 of the valve 32. A water passage 22 in the pan 20 is supplied with water by a flushing pipe (24, Fig. 1, not shown) from which a pipe 40 branches at a point downstream of a flushing valve (25) to connect with the lower chamber 39 of the valve 32. Suction is applied to the middle chamber via a pipe 38. Valves 43, 44 mounted on a stem 45 normally occupy a lower position in which opening 41 in partition 34 is closed and opening 42 in partition 35 is open, so that suction is applied via pipe 40 to the water passage 22. When the closet is flushed, water enters compartment 39 and acts on float 48 to raise the valves 43, 44 so that opening 42 is closed and opening 41 is opened so that suction is now applied via pipe 31 to the air passage 27. In a modification, Fig. 6, the air passage 54 is formed in the pan 51 adjacent water passage 52 and the downwardly directed openings 55 in the air passage are on the same level as discharge openings 53 of water passage 52, but may alternatively be below the latter openings (Fig. 8, not shown). In a further embodiment, Fig. 11, the valve is modified in that movement of the float is assisted by the action of flushing water on a cup 100 acting through linkage 97, 98, 99 on stem 95 carrying the float 96 and valves 93, 94.
