Abstract
893,347. Sanitary closets. ASSOCIATED BUILDERS MERCHANTS Ltd. Aug. 3, 1960 [May 21, 1959], No. 17358/59. Class 26. In a water closet seat or cover or seat and cover in combination which is/are pivotally connected to a closet pan, the means for doing so is/are substantially concealed, concealed, at least when the seat or cover or combination is lowered and when the cover in a combination is raised, by (a) shield section(s) attached to or formed integrally within the seat or cover or combination. In the form shown hinge members 4, 14 pivotally connect the seat 1 and cover 2, which include shield sections 4, 14 respectively, to the pan 3, having hinge eyes 5, 6 and 15, 16 on the underside co-operating with hinge pins 7, 8 of pillars 9, 10 in the pan 3. The shield section 4 has slots 17, 18 through which the hinge eyes 15, 16 attached to the shield section 14 move when the cover 2 is pivotally moved, the rearmost edge 24 of section 4 abutting the surface of the pan 3 when the seat 1 is pivoted to a few degrees past the vertical. The shield section 14 of the cover 2 slide over that of the seat when the cover is raised, its rearmost edge 25 abutting the pan surface as for the seat. At the rear of the seat 1 and cover 2 there are cheeks 21, 22 and 23 which close off opposite ends of the shield sections 4, 14.
