[Class 40 (iv)] A carbon electrode for a microphone is provided with a cup-shaped member having cut-away portions so that only predetermined parts of the electrode are exposed. As shown, the electrode 1 is star-shaped and the cover 4 is formed with openings 5 so that only the upper surfaces 3 of the arms 2 of the electrode are exposed. The cover may be formed of an insulating material or of aluminium, which may be oxidized and lacquered or coated with an insulating lacquer.
