Abstract

518,947. Fluid-pressure brakes. BOSCH GES., R. (formerly BOSCH AKT.-GES., R.). Sept. 10, 1938, No. 26456. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1937. [Class 103 (i)] A driver's valve on a tractor for controlling the brakes on a trailer and operated by the brake pedal, is operated by the hand brake lever by means of an additional lever which is loosely coupled with the valve member and is mounted on the valve casing so as to be operated by rocking movement in any plane containing the valve axis'and by rocking movement about the axis of the valve in order fo facilitate the installation of the valve on the vehicle. In the modification, shown in Fig: 2 the brake pedal operates the valve 14-19 by means of a lever 23, a rod 24, a spring'25 and a sleeve 21. The additional lever 26 is integral with a cap 28 which engages a rim 40 on the sleeve 21 by means of cams 39. Balls 32, 34 are arranged between the cap and a ring 35 on the valve casing. Between the ring and cap, balls 32 are arranged in sockets, so that movement of the cap 28 about the valve axis causes movement thereof parallel to the axis and operation of the valve. Rocking of the lever and cap in the plane of the axis about balls 32, or 34 as centre also produces operation of the valve. The balls are three arranged at 120‹ or four at 90‹ arranged symmetrically relative to the lever 26. The ring 24 is located by spring pins 37. In another construction the lever 26 is pivoted on one side of the cap and, on the other side of the cap, engages a pin on the cap by means of an opening. The valve comprises a plate 14 adapted to engage a fixed seat 18 or a seat 17 on a piston 16 adapted to be moved to the left by a spring 19 when the sleeve 21 is moved to the left by. the operating means. The brakes are connected to a port 11 and the pressure supply to a port 13. An atmospheric opening 22 is provided. The brakes of, the trailer described are held released by fluid-pressure.
